Totara Lodge Duck Pond improvements, March 2002.
March 2002
The trees have grown since the 1999 picture.
John Davis is building new terraces on the slope above the pond.
Gail Davis is trying to interrupt his work for breakfast.
The terraces, supported by stone walls, will be planted, leaving a flat spot for a picnic seat and path, just above where John is working with his rocks.
The stream in the little valley to the right has water-falls, constructed from stone, in the midst of the fernery.
The pond is being enlarged at its lower end, where clay is visible beyond the water.

Stone steps for walking up the hill are already in place

April 14 2002 Panorama of pool extensions

At the lower end, the pool system is extending through the fence, into the neighbour's property.
The temporarily lowered water level will allow construction of a firm,
erosion-proof edge for the pond.
Soon Daisy will be pumping water for the water falls, in the process improving water quality in the pond.

John is explaining (on the right, with much arm waving) how the earth dam he is standing on will have a new rock waterfall, replacing the drainage pipe.
Once the dam face is strengthened, dirt in the for-ground will  be be dug into a curved pond for Totara Lodge's neighbour.
